Painting for Beginners

Learn how to paint your own bright colourful abstract on canvas.

 

In this fun workshop, local Ballarat artist Laura will guide you through the process on how to create an artwork you are proud of!

 

Learn about composition and mark making techniques and walk away with a finished canvas.

 

This class is a beginner friendly workshop and open to all skills and levels of experience.

WHAT WILL BE COVERED

Laura will walk you through how to compose your abstract painting. She will demonstrate an easy way to create a colourful background for your canvas. Then we will move onto mark making, where students can practice different shapes and different techniques. This is sure to be a fun, interactive class where you can ask as many questions as you like. 

 

For beginners you can follow step by step the guide and techniques that Laura shares to paint your canvas or for the creatively adventurous you can go with the flow of your heart and paint something truely unique!

There are several options in walking distance. Please note there is no fridge onsite.

Tea and instant coffee making facilities will be available at the venue.
 

PARKING

There is plenty of free parking all over Buninyong within walking distance to all venues.

HEALTH

Please do not attend and contact us straight away to get a refund if you have any cold and flu symptoms and/or have travelled to a COVID hotspot inside of 14 days of the workshop. Our workshop spaces are set up to ensure adequate distancing between students.

Meet the Artist
Laura Day

Laura is a Visual Artist that lives and works in Ballarat, Victoria. She uses painting and mixed media to create her work. In 2004 Laura completed a Diploma of Visual Arts at Victoria University and went on to study a Bachelor of Communication Design with a Printmaking Major at the Queensland College of Art where she graduated in 2008.

​

Laura established a Screen-Printing Studio in Melbourne in 2010 and re-located to Ballarat in 2011 where she continued to run her art tutoring business. She has worked for numerous years as a disability and arts practitioner and has led art workshops in a variety of techniques to hundreds of students.

​

After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease Laura found new meaning in the creative process as she started using art making as a healing modality for herself. As an avid learner she is now currently undertaking Art Therapy studies through the Institute for Sensorimotor Art Therapy.
