Meet the Artist
Sonya Sutcliffe
An active contributor to the Buninyong community for many years, Sonya has a full-time gig as an educator at a school in Ballarat.
When she isn’t gardening, she is creating her locally renowned flower arrangements, crocheting, or walking her dogs in the bush. For those that know Sonya, there are a quite a lot of initiatives that are shared and discussed and achieved – many with valued friends, and often within the coffee shops of Buninyong. She likes to fill her day with projects that bring her joy and this is evident in her dedication to living her best life!

Sonya also has Rosie’s Cottage – a 3 bedroom home in a picturesque setting next to the Union Jack Reserve. This can be found on Airbnb and Facebook, where there are a substantial number of amazing reviews.

Rosie’s Garden on Gittings – beautiful posies are formed from the native flowers and proteas grown by Sonya. These are shared with the community and available for purchase from local businesses. A link for this can be found on Facebook. She loves to maintain the extensive gardens and is always keen to extend her knowledge of plants.

About 8 years ago, crocheting was a past-time taken up by Sonya to relax in the busy lunchtime routine of the classroom. There has been mixed success in the ability to relax, but she has developed skills to create amigurimi toys that are adorable and sought after by locals. A couple have even travelled overseas in these Covid times.
In summary, Sonya is faced with the dilemma of there not being enough hours in the day. She loves to inspire others to dream and succeed in their business ventures, and is a leader in the organisation of the ‘Buninyong Pop-Up Shop’ and ‘Makers and Shakers’ (a local craft group). She has a family that embrace her dreams and two dogs that are very happy as long as they have their daily walk.
